Hair Care Series: Clarifying

There is no video for this entry. I have decided to finish my hair care series on my blog to encourage more of my subscribers to visit and follow my blog :)

I Clarify shampoo once a month (two weeks after protein treatment on a Wednesday, my wash night).

Styling products such as hairspray, conditioners, mousse, and shampoo can cause buildup on the hair shaft overtime which can weigh down your hair making it look dull, flat, and lifeless. Clarify shampoo deep cleans the hair and removes all the buildup from the hair shaft. If you are a frequent swimmer (which I have been doing a lot of this summer) then clarifying will remove chlorine from your hair which can cause dry hair. Another reason to clarify is if you have hard water in you home that can damage your hair, clarifying will help a great deal in this case too.

DO NOT clarify frequently because it can dry your hair out.

Clarify Shampoo:
Nexus Aloe Rid
· Do not pre-poo.
· Shampoo hair 1-2 times with warm water and rinse out.

Deep Condition:
Nexus Humctress or Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner
· Add a quarter size (or depending on length of hair) amount to hair and ends of hair.
· If using heat, put on a plastic cap and use heat for 8 – 10 minutes. Rinse out with warm water.
· Run cold water through hair to seal hair cuticles.

Final Steps (preparing for bed):
Nexus Humectress Luxe Moisturizing Leave In Spray
Soft Sheen Wave Nouveau Coiffure Daily Humectant Moisturizing Lotion
Coconut Oil or ApHogee Essential Oils for Hair (to seal moisture to ends of hair)
· Add leave-in conditioner and detangle hair.
· Add moisturizing lotion and use oil to seal ends of hair
· Style hair using no heat (You can do a braid-out or spiral curls)Use a scarf or sleep on a satin pillowcase to protect hair and prevent breakage.

Hair Care Series: Protein Treatments

There is no video for this entry. I have decided to finish my hair care series on my blog to encourage more of my subscribers to visit and follow my blog :)

I do protein treatments once a month which is usually in the middle of the month. I usually go by which ever Saturday is closest to the 15th of the month, since the 15th is the middle of the month. I do my protein treatment followed by a deep conditioning treatment (this is why I do it on a Saturday since that is my deep conditioning day).

Protein treatments can help your hair in so many ways. If you hair appears and feels dry, looks unhealthy, or is severely damaged then protein treatments will restore, strengthen, and recondition you hair. If your hair is severely damaged then you may need to do more than one protein treatment a month. To maintain healthy hair then one treatment a month is all you need because too much protein to healthy hair can bad for it.
If your hair is colored, relaxed, or treated with any other chemicals then your hair, which is made up of mostly protein, is being stripped of protein. You can buy protein packs (ApHogee is a good one) or you can make your own right at home (How to do this is listed below).

Protein Treatment Mix:
Oil (Hot Six Oil, Avocado oil, coconut oil, ApHogee Essential Oils for Hair...any one will do)
1 egg (or more depending on your hair length)
v05 Moisture Milk or a thicker conditioner
• Whip egg in a big bowl.
• Add conditioner (you will need a good amount to do your entire head).
• Add oil (you don’t need a lot).
• Mix everything together (the mixture should be nice and thick).

Add mixture to dry hair. Part hair into four sections and take each section and apply mixture like you would a relaxer and add to ends of hair also.
Put on a plastic cap and leave on for 15 minutes.
Rinse completely out with warm water.
Do a deep condition.

Deep Condition:
Nexus Humctress or Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner
• Add a quarter size (or depending on length of hair) amount to hair and ends of hair.
• If using heat, put on a plastic cap and use heat for 8 – 10 minutes. Rinse out with warm water.
• Run cold water through hair to seal hair cuticles.

Final Steps (preparing for bed):
Nexus Humectress Luxe Moisturizing Leave In Spray
Soft Sheen Wave Nouveau Coiffure Daily Humectant Moisturizing Lotion
Coconut Oil or ApHogee Essential Oils for Hair (to seal moisture to ends of hair)
• Add leave-in conditioner and detangle hair.
• Add moisturizing lotion and use oil to seal ends of hair
• Style hair using no heat (You can do a braid-out or spiral curls)
• Use a scarf or sleep on a satin pillowcase to protect hair and prevent breakage.

Quick Simple Barely There Makeup

We all know what it's like to have to get up early in the morning and leave out of the house for school, work, an interview, or even just to make a quick run and not want to do a full face makeup look. I barely get any sleep as is (I'm an insomniac) so leaving the house that early in the morning with nothing on but moisturizer is not something I like doing. So if I need to be somewhere and want to look like I've gotten a full nights rest, I take no more than 5 minutes to do this barely there makeup look. After, I look bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to get the day started even if I don't actually feel that way.

Products Used:
Face:

  • MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Dark Natural/Shimmer (both sides)

Eyes:

  • MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Dark Natural/Shimmer (shimmer side on entire lid space)

  • NYX Eyeliner Pencil in Black Berry on waterline

  • L'Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on top and bottom lashes

Lips:

  • Ulta Shiny Lip Gloss in Whisper

• Run cold water through hair to seal hair cuticles.

Deep Condition (Saturdays):

Hair Care Series: Shampooing

Video One: Shampooing

Shampoo nights are Wednesdays. I pre-poo, shampoo, and deep condition.

Pre-poo:

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner Coconut Oil or ApHogee Essential Oils for Hair (to seal in moisture)

· Mix both together and make enough for entire head.
· Section hair into four parts.
· Take each section and apply mixture like you would a relaxer but take the mixture down the hair shaft and also apply to the ends of hair.
· Once all four sections are complete, massage mixture into hair and massage scalp to lift any dirt that may be there.
· Grab a big, wide tooth comb and make sure hair is detangled.
· Leave mixture in for 20 minutes.

Shampoo:

Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths Shampoo or Victoria’s Secret So Sexy Nourishing Shampoo

· Using warm water rinse out conditioner and oil mixture.
· Shampoo hair 2 times (work up lather but do not gather hair on top of hair to prevent tangles).
· On the second shampoo, detangle hair if needed with a wide tooth comb or with a scalp

massage brush. (I use Babyliss Scalp Massage Brush sold at Sally’s)
· Rinse hair of all shampoo.

Deep Condition:

Nexxus Humctress or Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner

· Add a quarter size (or depending on length of hair) amount to hair and ends of hair.

Lately.....

I know I have been slacking lately with getting out videos and keeping my blog updated. I am currently trying to find a job and that is eating up a lot of my time. I have also been working out and that is going extremely well. I think I may do a video or two to talk about my journey with getting into shape and being healthy. Another thing I am trying to get started is my crocheting. I have been crocheting for a while now and I have been thinking about selling my creations. I am not sure of how to go about doing it because the most important thing is advertising and once I can get people to see the things I am making then I am sure I probably could sell them. So that is pretty much been my life lately. I am still reading because it is summer and when I spend some time at the pool, I love to read while soaking up the sun. Other than that, there will be more videos coming soon and I will try not to be so lazy when it comes to my videos and blog :)

How To Curly Hair without Heat Pt. 1 and Pt. 2

This is the quickest, easy style I know how to do with my hair. All you need is ten minutes before bed at night and ten minutes when you wake up in the morning. This is a great style if you are trying to grow your hair out because it minimizes heat use and it also protects the ends of your hair while you sleep which helps retain moisture. You can get away with doing this style about 2 or 3 times before it starts to look a little rough and need washing. All you need to do is at night redo the process and wake up to curly hair again. In part two of my video, that was my third time doing it and you can tell that it looks like its time to wash as opposed to how it looked in part one. This is a great style for the summer and it's super cute too.

Weight Loss

I've been trying to lose weight for the longest but school always got in the way. When I graduated back in August 08 I was pretty upset with myself because I was up to 180lbs. Although I didn't look like I was almost 200lbs (standing at 5'4) I felt like I was.

Losing weight, for me, has always been about being healthy and not being skinny because I've been super skinny and I don't look good at all. I look much better with a little thickness to me and curves. Another reason is that my sister died when she was 26 from heart disease and now that I'm 26 that lingers in the back of my mind.

So since I've been working out, I have lost a total of 15lbs. It is a slow process and I wouldn't have it any other way because taking it off slow is the key to keeping it off. Any time you take weight off fast, your chances of gaining it back are great.

The things I've been doing is really working out great for me.
  • Going to the gym no less than 3 times a week
  • Cardio is key
I do treadmill (30-45 minutes on an incline of 5 at a speed of 3.0)
I do turbokick for an hour (high impact workout, martial arts moves combined with hip hop dance moves). You burn a ton of calories in just one hour, it's the best workout.
I do Zumba for an hour (salsa dance moves). This is a really fun workout and you burn tons of calories as well.
  • Drinking lots of water
This is actually the hardest part for me because I am addicted to pepsi lol and to be honest I still drink pepsi just not as much (pepsi was pretty much my source of liquids to stay dehydrated lol).
  • Tone those muscles
I weight lift for my upper body on Mon and Wed.
I weight lift for my lower body on Tues and Thurs.
Yoga is another awesome way to tone. I do yoga 2-3 times a week and it's an hour long. You stretch, tone, work on balance, relaxation, and it helps you calm your mind down through meditation.
  • Eating
I was very stern about not going on a diet because I don't think they work. I think it is better to just make lifestyle changes in what you eat. I pretty much eat what I want but I have noticed that since I've been exercising the way I eat has changed a bit.

So that's pretty much it and not only have I lost lbs but I have lost inches too. My clothes are huge on me so I am going to have to go shopping soon (YES!!! This is pretty much what I've been waiting for lol).

Stay tuned

New Hair Do

For the longest, I have wanted bangs but have always been afraid that I wouldn't look right with them. Well I finally just got over it and went ahead and did it. I'm very happy with the outcome. I have a baby face so I look much younger than I really am (not that this is a problem, I love it but I hate being carded ALL the time lol) and I think the bangs give me an edgier look. What do you think?

Now I have an excuse to come up with some new hairstyles.

What I'm reading

I've been reading so much shit lately that it's getting crazy. I'm reading several things at once....I know but I can't help it.

I read Steve Harvey's book 'Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man' and I found it to be a good read. There was a few things in there that I already knew but there was also a lot I learned and it had funny moments which I liked.

I'm now on to reading 'The Shack' by William P. Young. I just started it so I really can't say what I think just yet but it is very interesting so far. If you believe in a high power then you may like this book.

I'm reading 'The Host' by Stephenie Meyer and I'm really liking this book. I loved the Twilight Sagas so I wanted to give this one a try. It's completely different from Twilight, a psychological sci-fi. I love reading or watching psychological thrillers (or what I like to call mind fucks) the ones that really get inside your head and make you think.

I also love reading fan fictions online. If you don't know what fan-fics are, they are stories created by fans. For example, I'm reading tons of fan-fics about Twilight. These fan-fics take the characters of Twilight and put them in a completely new and different storyline. One story in particular called 'Wide Awake' which is my favorite. In this story Edward and Bella (both human) both have painful past and suffer from realistic, horrific nightmares that keep them from wanting to sleep at night. Upon meeting each other they form a friendship and a bond, telling each other about their tragic past and helping one another stay awake each night to keep the nightmares from coming. Bella finds that Edward is the only man that she can get close to and touch without having a crazy panic attack and Edward finds that Bella is the only one that he can talk to and be honest with about his life. One night they discover that sleeping in each others arms keeps the nightmares away but soon what was just a friendship becomes much more but how can a relationship work when both parties are clearly fucked up in the head. (This is my synopsis of the story from my perspective).
I LOVE this storyline, it's real, raw, full of smut (yeah that's right smut), and it's original. If you are a Twilight fan I recommend reading if you haven't already (http://angstgoddess003.livejournal.com/699.html).

I have several more books that will be cracked open soon. I wish I had more time in the day to read, watch my favorite TV shows, come up with make-up ideas, exercise, and catch at least a four hours of sleep (that's if I'm lucky).

Stay tuned....

My First Entry

I decided that it's time for me to start my own blog. I've been on here following some peeps for a while but never really thought I should have my own.

A few things about me... I graduated with honors and with a degree in game software development. Although I love this subject, I haven't had any luck finding a job in this area. I'm really good with computers (the software side of them. Not too good with the hardware aspect of it).

After I graduated from college, I found that my passion for make-up began growing more and more. From the time I had start wearing make-up, I loved it but never had the time to explore it in more detail. With time on my hands I decided that I would start actually applying the skills that I was learning from other gurus on YouTube to myself and start my own YouTube channel (
www.youtube.com/qtpooh83). I've learned a lot but there's still more that I need to know and practice makes perfect of course.

If I could use on word to describe me, it would definitely be creative. From the clothes I wear to just doing certain things in life, my mind is always thinking outside of the box. I do suffer from insomnia and I think it's because I have a hard time calming down all the thoughts going on in my head.

In the past months, I've found something else I like doing and that's crocheting. I also want to learn to sew and create my own clothes (I will see how that goes in the next few months).

Stay tuned for much to come :)
